Tourist Sights The hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from the river
Spey, which attracts many anglers, walkers and nature enthusiasts. Rothes
also has the remains of a castle, which was built in the 11th century.
When the castle was demolished, the stone was used to build many of
the buildings you can see in Rothes, including the hotel. There is also
a golf course, within walking distance of the hotel. Five distilleries
are located in Rothes; Glen Grant has a visitor’s centre and gardens
to visit. Glenrothes produces excellent single malt. There is also speyburn,
glen spey and Rothes Castle Aberlour is 5 miles away from Rothes and is the home of the world famous Walkers shortbread factory where you can visit and buy some of their many products. The Aberlour distillery offers daily distillery tours and a visitors shop.
From Mosstodloch you can proceed to the Baxter’s food factory and their visitors centre. Spey bay is only 5 minutes drive from Mosstodloch where you can visit the wildlife centre and nature reserve. This is a good place to spot the Moray Firths pod of bottlenose dolphins. You can also adopt a dolphin from the centre. This is also a good bird-spotting site. Elgin is situated 10 miles from Rothes. It has a good selection of shops. Elgin cathedral which was built in 1224 is well worth a visit. Although the cathedral is now in ruins. There is an excellent view of the surrounding area from the north tower. Also in Elgin is Johnstons Cashmere Visitor Centre where the locally produced products can be purchased. Johnstons was established in 1797 and produces high quality woolen goods. Pluscarden Abbey is six miles from Elgin, was founded in 1230, and is still inhabited by monks and Britain’s only medieval monastery still being used for its original purpose.
